The MOE-MeC modification adds a 2'-O-(2-Methoxyethyl)5-Methyl Cytidine internally or to the 5’ end of an oligonucleotide. 2'-MOE nucleotides confer increased nuclease resistance and are commonly used in applications for posttranscriptional silencing of specific target genes; including steric blocking antisense oligos (ASO), aptamers, gapmer ASOs, and small interfering RNA (siRNA). In addition, 2'-MOE nucleotides exhibit high binding affinity towards complimentary RNA as well as reduced cytotoxicity.
